Botox: What Do YOU Think?

Seriously, what do you guys think about Botox? Yes, this is completely off topic, but I'm just genuinely curious, mostly because I don't really know how I feel about it.

Botulinum toxin is a medication and a neurotoxic protein produced by the bacterium Clostridium botulinum, and is known to be very toxic with an LD50 of roughly 0.005–0.05 µg/kg making it the most toxic substance known to man. Despite its deadly toxic effect, it is sometimes used in very small doses to treat muscle spasms. Popularly known by one of its trade names, Botox, botulinum toxin is now commonly used in various settings for cosmetic procedures.

...or so says Wikipedia. Now I really don't know what half of that sentence means, but I think I get the jist of it.

But what are you guys' opinions on it? Would you consider it cosmetic procedure? It seems to be all over Hollywood. Jennifer Aniston has been quoted saying, "I tried Botox once and it was really not good for me. I felt like I had a weight on my head." Recently Kim Kardashian has also admitted to using Botox. But is it something to "admit" to? Or is it as normal as getting your teeth whitened? Would YOU ever get Botox? Or maybe you already have. I was just curious as to how many people are for it, because I have certainly met my share of people that are against it!

Thoughts?

2 Random Comparisons Red & Orange

Happy May 18th! Am I the only person that still can't believe it's 2010? 2009 kind of got a bad rap for being a "sucky" year, at least from everyone I talked to. 2009 was a rollercoaster for me, with great days and truly awful days. I might even go so far as to say that a very craptastic experience around this time in 2009 shaped who I am and who I will be for the rest of my life. Cheesy? Yes. But true.

I'll stop.

First, I swatched China Glaze Ruby Pumps next to Entity Red. In the bottles they don't really look alike:

On the nail, they look more similar. I took dozens of pictures trying to capture the same WOW factor in Red as I did in Ruby Pumps, but I think I failed for to reasons:
     a) Entity Red is hard to capture in artificial light
     b) Ruby Pumps is slightly more glittery.

1 and 3 are Ruby Pumps and 2 and 4 are Red. If you're looking for a tamer version of Ruby Pumps, I would recommend Red. I know it's like comparing apples and oranges (has anyone ever really done that?) but they are similar. To me, at least.

Next I compared Nicole by OPI Freshly Squeezed to China Glaze Orange Marmalade to Entity Pearl Orange. I thought I had taken a bottle shot, but I guess not; it was a while ago. Now that I think about it, I thought they all looked pretty similar, so maybe that's why I opted not to.

1 is Freshly Squeezed, 2 is Orange Marmalade, and 3 is Pearl Orange. 1 and 3 seem to have the same base color, while 2 is a little deeper. Freshly Squeezed has a red shimmer; Orange Marmalade is the most red of the three; and Pearl Orange  has--Surprise!--a pearly finish.

The formula on all five of these polishes was great; none of these are really dupes per se, but it's easier to judge when you see them side by side, right? I'll search my stash for more comparisons to do.

Urban Decay Apocalyptic Nail Kit

All right, amigas (and amigos, if you're out there!) Today we have Urban Decay's Apocalyptic Nail Kit, which consists of seven mini bottles with awesome names in a cute little zip-up pouch. Did you know Urban Decay Cosmetics started when Sandy Lerner couldn't find the perfect purple nail polish and decided to make her own? Since I'm a huge fan of Urban Decay products, I was super excited to try these nail polishes, and I was very pleased with the results. Swatches below!

First is one of my favorites, White Widow. This one kind of reminds me of a marshmallow. White Widow is a gray, kind of dusty white with a shimmer finish. Unless you wait until each coat is almost dry, it gets pretty streaky, so this isn't the polish to be applying when you're pressed for time.

Metalllic gray lovers will enjoy Gunmetal. Perfect name, in my opinion. It's a dark, dirty gray with a nice shimmer. For some reason none of the pictures I took really showed the shimmer.

Apocalypse is a very deep purple, almost black. Not terribly original.

Grunge has been described as a peacock blue. I don't have any other blues like it; it's got a teal-ish feel to it, but since it's darker and has shimmer it's pretty edgy.

Meltdown. Practically electric, isn't it? Almost neon purple with a pretty shimmer. I swatched it next to China Glaze Let's Groove! to compare.

1 and 3 are Let's Groove! and 2 and 4 are Meltdown.

Big Bang reminds me of the pink velvet leotard I wore to gymnastics when I was five. And if memory serves, I paired it with some blue spandex shorts. Stylin'. This one caught my eye right away and stands out from the set, but it's not the oddball out, you know? It works. It looks like it wouldn't dry perfectly but it does. Love it.

F-Bomb. Awesome name. F-ing awesome, you might say. F-Bomb is a slightly muted red creme. It's not too flashy, but it still makes a statement.

All in all, I think this was a great collection, but I think the colors really speak for themselves, don't you?

I'm Baaa-aaaack!

Firstly, to those that have emailed me asking where I've been, I truly appreciate it, and have emailed all you guys back. I was so pleasantly surprised to get your messages! I've been AWOL for about a month now, maybe more, and it feels good to be back.

Between the Easter holiday and then some major personal life issues, I was finally ready to return when I got one of those awful headaches that last for like two weeks (what are they called? Oh, yeah, FINAL EXAMS) and got pulled away again. The end of the school year was killer, but nothing a little Law & Order SVU marathon therapy can't cure, which is what I'm doing now.

I have a few posts to do, but my nails are in awful shape, so they'll all be swatches I'd done before exams. Practically every nail has been demolished in some kind of freak accident; snagging on the basket of bread as I put it on the table, a fall after my dog took off after a squirrel and yanked the leash out of my hand, ect.

Rest in peace, pretty nails; we barely knew ye.

Anyway, the point is that I'm back. And hopefully here to stay.
